Libertarianism in the United States WAS originally called liberalism... but it was hijacked by the progressive movement after "progressive" became a "dirty word."

So you'll sometimes hear american libertarianism referred to as "classical liberalism"

economic issues are typically the most important in american politics... people can more easily be convinced about social issues than economic, because capitalism has done well for us... It's all those useless social programs and deficit spending that are bringing us down, along with a law passed in the 70's that forced banks to loan money to people who couldn't afford to pay it back... (sub prime loans... yeah, that wasn't predatory lending, it was GOVERNMENT MANDATED LENDING.)

Ron Paul is not the "most high profile" Libertarian in the United States. He left the libertarian movement years ago when he adopted a weak on Defense and isolationist foreign policy.

We US Libertarians are Strong on Defense, and are vehemently opposed to the rise of Islamo-Fascism. On domestic matters we're "fiscally conservative/socially tolerant."

Our favorite politician overseas? Geert Wilders.

Our favorite political figure here in the US? Sarah Palin.
